What is IEC 62619?


IEC 62619 specifies the tests and requirements for safe secondary lithium batteries and cells for industrial use such as static applications. Where there is a conflict between an IEC international standard specifying test conditions and requirements for cells used in special applications and this document, the former takes precedence (e.g. IEC 62660 series for road vehicles). The following are some examples of applications using cells and batteries within the scope of this document.


- Stationary applications: telecommunications, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), electrical energy storage systems, utility switching, emergency power and similar applications.

- Power applications: Forklifts, golf carts, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), rail vehicles and marine vehicles, except road vehicles.


The types of battery testing required by the IEC 62619 standard include: cell testing, battery system testing types (thermal abuse test chamber, power battery drop tester, thermal runaway tester, high current battery short circuit test, heavy impact battery tester).
